Mililani Town, situated in the centre of Oahu, was originally a large sugar cane field up until the 1960s when Castle & Cook began developing a new suburban area aimed to meet the island's growing residential needs. This turned into a master planned neighborhood that is well known for its warm sense of community, and of course for its prestigious titles, such as the 1986 All American City and Money Magazine's highly sought after best places to live for 2007. There are a set of rules established by the Mililani Town Association in order to keep the neighborhood safe and well taken care of, as well as to maintain the town's high property values. The association is widely praised for its sponsorship of many recreational centers in the area, some of which have their own swimming pools or tennis courts, and also helps to plan several family related activities and programs, as well as form a neighborhood watch. Some of the more exciting activities available include hula, martial arts, exercise, tennis, dance and health lessons, as well as several activities planned for specific age groups, such as young children and seniors. Another great draw is the 72 par, 18 hole golf course, located conveniently close to a shopping center. The town center has a number of popular shops including Star Market, WalMart and Longs Drugs. There are also plenty of cafes, restaurants, health and beauty locations, clothing boutiques and even a cinema! The Mililani complex is comprised of a number of elementary schools, which prepare your children for further schooling at the Mililani Middle School and the Mililani High School.
